December, 2023

Greetings!

As I look out my window at the beautiful snowy landscape, I realize that another year is almost past. Every year seems to go by faster, but always with many blessings. And this is a special time for me to think of my many friends and family.

I spend most of my time now here in Maine with the Medinas, Norman & Lanita. Norman is always busy with his dental business with a new addition to his building this year but Creative Memories, a scrapbooking business, is what keeps Lanita occupied. Since the slowdown of Covid, she has retreats in several places, with from 60 to 80 women who come to spend the weekend making beautiful albums with their photos. So then I get to do things making kits to help the ladies. It’s so much fun and a really happy time.

In April, I went to California for a few weeks to visit Fred and Diana, but the real reason was to attend the alumni reunion at Pacific Union College where I graduated 70 years ago. I was sad that there was only one other there who graduated that year, but some are too old to travel, and many have passed away. I was happy to see one of my former first graders who was attending his 50-year reunion. Not so many seem to attend the reunions as in years past.

May was the month when another great-grandson, Wesley Adams, was born to join his two brothers in Daniel and Glorianna’s family in Vancouver, Washington.

Not much later, on July 4, great-granddaughter Bella Juneau Boyd came to Krista and Brendon in Eagle River, Alaska, where Brendon is enjoying his work as a physical therapist.

In November, Margot Henry, completed the quartet of Fulgham great-grandchildren. Eli, Owen, and Hailee are the other 3 who live in Lexington, Kentucky with their parents Alex and Laurel, who is my very busy great-granddaughter, Nurse Practitioner, and also teaches. Her parents, Troy and Maryann Keeping, also live there when they aren’t traveling, which is often.

In August, all the Medina kids came home briefly so they could welcome baby Bella Boyd. It was a special time as she was dedicated at church, and her other grandparents, Tim and Annette Boyd from Pennsylvania were there also.

I made another trip to California near the end of September to attend the yearly Christian Women’s Retreat. This was the 40th year, and two other ladies and I have been there every year. It is always such a special time with good speakers, good music, and good food. Many of my family and friends, including my three Medina granddaughters, have gone at different times, and this year they surprised me by coming from all over the USA. We all enjoyed the speaker, Carol Kent, so it was indeed a special time.

Diana got some raised beds for planting her garden this year, so has been very busy with canning and freezing.

A few weeks ago, Freddie spent a week in Sutter Hospital in Sacramento after suffering the effects of low blood circulation to his right foot. Dr. Linda and Diana were by his side, but it was such a relief when he was able to come home, and is feeling better.

Boots and Russ are enjoying retirement in Reno. Their daughter Deana is busy working, while Gillian is studying for her Masters in Salt Lake City, and Emilia just graduated from UNR, and is also working.

Ben Medina and Andrew Oliver are both enjoying clinicals in CRNA studies, while Amanda and Kandice both just graduated as Nurse Practitioners.

My wish is that all of you, my family and friends, have a happy and blessed year to come.
