Deer View

Field Trip Report

Today we went to Deer View. The first thing we did was meet at a pond. From there the kids got in an old model A Ford.

When we were almost there the first two cars wouldn’t go through a very deep puddle. The van Mr. Adams was driving made it through. We drove a little farther and parked.

Then we picked blackberries, hunted for cows, learned more about Deer View and played.

There used to be a big hotel with 250 rooms. The man that built the hotel had a big dream, but he died before he could finish the hotel. His children never fulfilled his dream. The windows were broken and the roof never got finished and one winter there was a big snow storm and the roof leaked and snow came through the windows. That day the hotel collapsed. It only stood ten years.

There was a lodge right next to it called Deer View. It was called Deer View to attract hunters. It had very big fireplaces. It finally collapsed.

The only thing left of the lodge and hotel are the steps, foundation, and the food and drink coolers. It really was a very beautiful place.

What I liked the best was riding in the model A and seeing the foundation.
