Mission Life in Venezuela
Text mostly by Daniel Adams, Venezuela missionary & pilot in training and service.
While David Gates and I were flying, the rest of the group went on a hike out to Caracol, a village in Venezuela which has been needing medical help.
Student Missionary Corrie Sample doing health checks in Caracol.
Pulling teeth, great fun.
Corrie also has a talent for making the best food out of almost anything under even the most unusual circumstances.
After the engine was delivered to the mechanic shop in Puerto Ordaz, I met Bob and Neiba Norton, spent the night there, then left early the next morning and headed for home base. On our way home we got a call on the radio saying that the group in Caracol would like a ride.
But first we picked up some patients who were in need of help and were within our range.
When David Gates came, we all
had a meeting with the builders and got things in order.
Since then the builders have made good progress, and we hope to have the cafeteria done within the next few weeks.
Looking good!
After a very full week, that
night we had a meeting of praise and thanks to God for
keeping us safe and that we could be here working for Him.
Corrie plays the flute - an instrument my mom likes to play as well!
Bob Norton is a man of many
talents!
His mom Nytta used to teach piano to my dad and aunts when they were kids living in Chiapas, Mexico.
This is the waterfall we went to. I don’t know what it’s called but we sure had fun.
We went back behind the falls
and almost made it all the way across!
Bob came in with a snake bite
patient.
We were happy to help him into the
SUV and take him to the hospital.
This is the luxury house that I stay in right now. I call it the double-decker. I like it because the wind blows through at night so it stays nice and cool in the tent.
This is how we fuel the motorcycle.
Just before I left Wednesday
morning, I caught a glimpse of Susan Duehrssen washing her
hair.
A perfect example of life on our compound - not the norm in the U.S. but fully functional in this area!
This baby is a new addition!
Bucklee and Shannon Eller adopted him. I don’t have the full
story yet but I will send it when I can. Here you see a
neighbor girl holding him.
After leaving the patient at the hospital in Santa Elena, we made the most of the trip and came here to the Iruk Café. Here you can see them checking their e-mail and me picking out which pictures to put in this show. It’s very nice in here, it even has AC!
This is Josh Alderman, an old friend of
mine from Weimar! It’s a small world!
It turns out that after he left Weimar, Josh came down here and started a Bible school, and has been here ever since. I hope to get more info about his school for those who are interested.
Well, That’s all for now. I’ll
keep you up to date as I can. This trip has had a lot of
hard work, and fun, but to me it’s all fun. I love my work
here and I hope to do this for the rest of my life.
