Hi Everyone,

Things have definitely happened since my last e-mail.  On day two of our three-day waiting time, the village captain Alvaro, got a phone call from the 3rd ranking General in Venezuela.  An appointment was made to talk with him on Thursday the 22nd of April.  Our hopes soared.  Dr. Michael was so excited as were the rest of us because God was obviously working to keep us in Venezuela.

As a result of getting the appointment, our trip to Mount Roraima was put back on the schedule, so on that same Thursday we all headed up the mountain.  We didn't hear about how the meeting went until we got back, but we had some problems of our own to pray about.

One of our group somehow got off the trail and got lost in some very thick jungle at the base of Roraima's cliffs.  He was missing for more than 30 hours.  But he appeared again after that time hiking up the ledge.  He had managed to find his way out and to the trail without our help, though we were looking for him in many different places.  Praise God he only had scrapes and bruises, when the possibility existed for him to have broken bones and other more serious injuries.  Other than that our mountain top experience was rather dreary and rainy.  But hiking in the rain is quite fun so I still got out and hiked places.

But we are back in Maurak now, and the results of the meeting have been shared with us.  Our guys that went to Caracas were taken into the military command center of Venezuela and were left alone for awhile in an area where charts and plans were in the open.  They were probably being watched to see what their actions would be.  The accusation brought against our group is that we are spies.

They spent two hours in a meeting with 30+ of the main government officials and were able to share with them the history of Maurak, including stories of the visions had by village chiefs that taught the people how to live God's way.  Most of the government leaders had never heard about the SDA church and had no idea what good it does for the people in Venezuela.  It was an amazing witnessing opportunity and the village captains of Maurak (Alvaro & Donald) gave a compelling witness for God.

But the hearts of the leaders were unmoved.  Their decision had already been made and we are not allowed to do any more medical work in Venezuela.  So on Tuesday we are headed for Guyana.

This is definitely a faith-building experience.  We expected that since God had gotten the appointment for us, He would give us a favorable response from the leadership of this country.  But that did not happen.  But although we do not understand why God is allowing all of this to happen, we do know that He is in complete control.

From the information that I have right now, we will be heading to Georgetown, Guyana, where we will be working in the Adventist hospital as well as out in surrounding villages.

Permission has been given by the government there and they are all excited to have us come.  Apparently they only have one doctor in an area with 30,000 people, and for awhile they didn't even have that.

This may be the last message I get to write before arriving home in 3 weeks, so if you don't hear from me for awhile don't be upset. :)  I will write an update once I reach the U.S. if I don't get to get on sooner.  Thanks so much for your continued prayers and support.  God bless!!!!!

In His Service,

~ Corrie ~
